Albert Schweitzer – Singer

Among many of the greatest and best singers and musicians of the twentieth century, Albert Schweitzer’s voice was often overlooked by those who were making their way through the music industry. Often regarded as an “aspiring” singer with little musical talent and little potential for stardom, his early records did not receive the kind of attention that many of his contemporaries were getting. Even though he was going out on a limb as an artist by releasing his first full length album, it was not until his second album, Symphony No. 21 that he truly began to shine, becoming one of the most popular artists of the decade. As an artist, however, Albert Schweitzer was still able to remain one of the most well known and respected voices in the world of classical music.

While many of his contemporaries had completely lost sight of his talent, it would take another decade before other voices as well as his name became recognized by a larger audience. He would begin to receive notice from record executives with the release of the well-received Oscar Peterson concert film, A Tribute to St. Matthew. The movie features some of the finest orchestral music ever performed by an artist. After that, Albert Schweitzer began to enjoy a greater exposure as a composer and conductor, with two acclaimed albums of his work being released in 1987 and 1989.

In the wake of the release of the Oscar Peterson concert film, Albert Schweitzer found himself in the midst of an avalanche of publicity. Much of the spotlight was taken away from him and his music. He would be forced to fight back against this wave of negativity by putting together another album of his work, calling it The Music of Three Identical Trains. With this release, Albert Schweitzer once again emerged as one of the top performers of the late twentieth century.
